A letter to Jussie Smollett

It must’ve sounded good at the time. I mean, even though you probably thought it through, you didn’t think it through well enough — your…

“You have to learn not to get caught.”

It’s about time. Prior to COVID, the U.S. was experiencing notable mass shootings at the rate of about one a week. Other than certain war-torn,…

(Shopping) At home for the holidays

When I was a kid, my mother would applaud retailers like Nordstrom who held all Christmas advertising and decoration until after Thanksgiving. Nordstrom’s 120-year-old tradition…

Rittenhouse IV: “Praise Jesus!”

“Praise Jesus!” That’s what the Facebook post said. It wasn’t just one post either — I saw several identical posts in reaction to Kyle Rittenhouse…

Rittenhouse III: Already a martyr

NBC News ran an editorial today stating that Kyle Rittenhouse will become a right-wing martyr if he’s convicted. NBC News is wrong: Rittenhouse is already…

When secret agents meet: Clarification

Mea culpa. The satiric mockery piece I posted on November 2 was universally interpreted in ways I did not intend. When something is misinterpreted by…

“I’ve become everything I ever mocked as penance for the hedonism of my youth.”
— Matthew Meador

Matt Meador is a retired food and beverage writer and editor. Since age and circumstance conspired to deprive him of his customary food and drink, he has shifted his attentions to political commentary because this switch allows him to be a little grouchy.

Prior to his work celebrating food and spirits, Matt was an award-winning graphic artist.

Rumor has it Matt hung around the capitol where he learned a simple plate of cookies delivered to Legislative Counsel could get his bills moved to the top of the pile. Who says there’s no corruption in state politics?
